Atlantic Connection comes through with a very diverse mix which ranges not only drum n bass styles but also shifts moods with every mix to every song. From the jump and the catch “Show Em’ What You Got” sample to funky amens to liquid/funky step, this is a mix you can just pop in and fits your mood. Some tunes will have you listening to the intricacies of their production, while others are just thick rollers which just progress subtley over time, while other songs just knock you upside your head. Progressing throughout the album, Atlantic Connection picks and mixes songs which devlop with harmonies and melodies which keep you engaged. All tunes are banging, but my joint is “Crooklyn” which is a take off of the classic song from Q-Tip, Special Ed and Buckshot and the hip hop version has one of the illest basslines ever in hip hop. This mix is one of the chilliest mixes (and I don’t mean ‘chill as in snooze’, but chill as in you play it so much or you leave it in your CD rotation so much you don’t realize it) the Back2Back series has seen.

Mason and Armanni come with one simply ridiculous mix which is just a bevy of beat down drum n bass, laced with some airtight vocals from the man Armanni himself. From the big intro sound to the end there is no let up as the theme (see “300”) of the mix is just a relentless barrage of hard drum n bass to bloody your face. Sometimes with hard aggressive drum n bass sounds tend to clash, but Mason mixes this session to perfection. The tracklist features a heavy mix of some great stateside artists from LA (i.e. Infiltrata) to Philly (i.e. D*Star) to New York (i.e. Ewun). Giving the mix the Midas touch, Armanni simply gives MCs everywhere a blueprint on how it should be done! From his commanding vocals, to his crazy alliteration skills, Armanni shows why he is one of the world’s best. Each track is fuckin’ solid, but my fav has to be the “Stray Shots” (Photek feat. Mental Sharp) which (whenever it comes out?) I expect to be HUGE anthem! Simply put, Mason and Armanni delivered a classic!
